We’re excited to announce the latest updates to the BIMcontent.com Revit Plug-in, including compatibility with Revit 2025 and 2026.
Since launching the first version of the BIMcontent.com Revit Plug-in, feedback from our fast-growing community has been been overwhelmingly positive, so we’re thrilled to complete these latest updates, helping Revit users streamline access to quality controlled BIM content from leading building product suppliers within your Revit project workflows.
What’s New in the 2026/2025 Update
Based on user feedback, we’ve enhanced the plug-in with new features that improve functionality, user experience and deployment. These updates reflect our commitment to providing the most efficient content utilisation workflows for BIMcontent.com community members who use Revit as their primary project design software.

New Customisation Options
Settings File
This is an xml file designed to be edited and deployed with the application in larger firms. The location is: C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\BIMcontent
The two Settings available for editing are a Custom Material Image Location, and the ability to disable Plug-In updates.
Custom Material Image Location
A custom Material Image path can be set, where any required material image assets will be downloaded to.
The default is C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\BIMcontent\Material Images
When accessing a family or project file through the BIMcontent.com Plug-In, it checks if there are any materials with images required for the material to display correctly. If any images are required for the materials, the Revit render paths are checked first, to see if an image with that name is already available. If a newer version is not available, the image is not downloaded again. If a required image or newer version is not found, it will be downloaded from BIMcontent.com, and saved to the custom image path in the Setting.xml file. If this path is not specified or it is a read only directory, the default path will be used.
This update has been implemented to reduce repeated image downloads for multiple team members.
BIM Managers / Admins can use this in two ways:
Scenario 1: A shared writable path for image assets.
This would be a network location that all users would have write access to. All images would be saved there as families are used, and there would be no missing material images for users working on the same project.
Scenario 2: A shared read-only path for image assets that the BIM manger / admin populates.
This would be a network location that all users would have read access to. The BIM Manager would proactively download the “Material Images” zip files from BIMcontent.com (one for each brand), and save the images into that directory.
**Special note, if there are missing images on any BIMcontent.com materials, the “Get Material Images” function will download them all according to the settings above.
Disable Updates
This has been designed for IT environments that don’t allow automatic software updates. We would not recommend using this option in other cases.
The setting can be added to the Setting.xml as shown:
<setting id=”disableUpdate”>
<key>true</key>
</setting>
